  1. Oh some of these comments are so funny. I get the perception that repentbelievebesaved lives with a lot of guilt. Guess that’s what pennance is for? BTW, what is meant by “Do not use God/the Lord’s name in vain?”

  2. There was time I believe in God but then again the more I looked around I found out that people who are religious are abusing religion here is why….Let’s pretend that God is real if he is real and look down and seen what is happening to this world what do you think he or she be thinking right now.I think he or she would be pissed off right now because we are killing our own brothers and sisters so I ask this question if there are some Americans, British, Australians, South Koreans, Japanese and Arabs that ever think about “hey wait a minute” why are we killing our own brothers and sisters. And here is another question that history has to tell… Where was God when six thousand Jews died under Nazi aggerssion and crimes.Well maybe we are not brothers and sisters because God is not telling us that we should stop and he is not coming down from heavens to save six thousand people who met their own deaths.By the way have you people read story about King Arthur how he sent three of his knights to look for cup that Christ used on last day “The Holy Grail” okay then where is Holy Grail and where is King Arthur body. Religious folks cannot show any proof that God is real or Jesus Christ is real.

  3. At least Chinese, Japanese and Koreans mainly Chinese can show proof that there people (I call them warlords) existed dating back to first century why well go to China, Korea and Japan and these people can show you TOMBS that go back thousands and millions of years. And here is another interesting note… God and Jesus didn’t come into picture and have people believe in them untill eleventh century. Which means God and Jesus only came into eleventh century.

  4. :eyes: Wow…so this is what it takes to get comments …Dude you really got some people mad up in here…! so you want to be my friend.

  5. The bantering here is really sad. Leevi wants to believe what he wants to. Someone obviously hurt him so deep in Christianity that he’s turned off to it. I made friends with a Wiccan and even they believe in a Divine Theos. By the way the text are fully of redemption, unless you choose not to see it. Blessings

  6. @JatimlexNah, not really. I just don’t believe in gods.+ there are lots of bad things done in religions name, lots of good things too, but too many crazy things are justified with religion.incidently this comic popped up today in one of the RSS feeds I subscribe http://www.jesusandmo.net/2009/07/16/seal/

  7. :monkey:  πŸ™‚ :bandit: :spock: Evolution seems logical, but what does that have to do with not believing in gods. There are many religious people who believe in evolution.

  8. Originally posted by Jatimlex: I made friends with a Wiccan and even they believe in a Divine Theos.Way to go with damning with faint praise? Congratulations, my Wiccan friend, you’re just a smidgen better than those filthy atheists! You may not mean that, but that’s the sentiment that I’m getting from your wording.

I presume you are not a historian either. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”. (John 3:16) Also, if you have a Bible, read the prophecy of Isaiah:53…he speaks of Yeshua (Jesus) our Messiah…Obviously YOU just read any old gibberish that’s put in from of you… Do you also believe in fairies and goblins and Leprechauns? They’ve been written about a lot. I was force fed The Bible as a child. Why don’t you try reading http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Mysteries-Was-Original-Pagan/dp/0609807986 or watching The God Who Wasn’t There http://www.thegodmovie.comChristians always want you to read their propaganda. Why not reciprocate and read some of ours? It’s interesting that you write a post about The Bible and suddenly gets 60 comments. Write one about the Koran though and you’ll get death threats.

  10. I’m confused, I didn’t say I was a wiccan, I just made a comment about what a wiccan told me. What did I say that was so damming?

  11. Back to Leevi, I can’t always get back right away as I’m an over the road truck driver I don’t always have wifi available. Does it not take more faith to believe in time and chance.

  12. We are here, so clearly the dice were in our favour. Given enough time anything can happen. Universe is big, billions of stars out there and countless number of planets orbiting them. Who knows how the dice rolled on them and how their enviroment shaped the life in there.Originally posted by Jatimlex:[…] even they believe in a Divine Theos.I too kinda interpreted that as:”Wiccans, although little bit crazy, but still *even* they believe in gods” (Wiccan’s have two gods, so this time the plural isn’t in there just to tick off the believers of the one and only true god). Don’t know if you meant it like that, but that’s the way I got it. Maybe it’s just me… truth to be told I think Wiccans are a bit crazy, but don’t get me wrong, I think all the religions are like that, little bit crazy.

  13. Yes I used Theos on purpose, but not to tick anyone off. I did it to move the conversation away from “religion.” Religion kills the spirit, stifles free thinking and tries to put people in a box, which turns into a rut. A rut is an grave with the ends kicked out.

  14. @Jatimlex,Sorry, wasn’t clear there…you made it sound like being a wiccan was only slightly better than being an atheist.edit: basically what leevi explained much better two comments up πŸ˜›

  15. The statement made by Leevi is just too stupid to comment on it.Despite this fact I wish you all the peace you want,Anodyne

  16. U forgot 2 mention God πŸ˜€ He is in all this that our Society brings forth. So I do not think it is ‘Sad’ – It is hopeful, very much So. BUT if U leave God out in the Cold then U got only what’s left, mainly…” murder, corruption, homosexuality, bestiality, incest and cruelty. It is often read to children on Sunday.” That is SO sad…

  18. Buddhism doesn’t have a God, Buddha is like a educational degree, it’s supposed that every devoted Buddhist could practice to achieve the state of Buddha, it’s a life long journey, not easy. Buddhism doesn’t exclude other religions or their Gods. Buddhism emphasizes self emptiness — s state of no self-desire, therefore no selfishness. Buddhism didn’t became a ruling class in history, had no religious wars.Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are Abrahamic religions, monotheistic, sharing the same God, yet constantly fighting with each other for claiming other religions wrong. This puzzles me.

  19. Buddhism is selfish. We have to admit:We didn’t make ourselves,we don’t know how we came to life,we know we all did wrong in our lifes. There is nothing that can take sins away from us,nothing but real forgiveness. And whose forgiveness do we needif not the forgiveness of the one we harmed, human beingsand first of allour father in heaven. No one can save himself by meditating, striving for emptiness or how ever you will call it.What else shows true love more than forgiveness. All this is reason enough to believe in god and to seek god.All the physical fights between the so called religions are sin.But claiming the truth cannot be wrong. So if I know the truth, how could I not claim itand how could I not say that others are wrong. If someone can’t stand words and wants to fight me with physical means for my words, he is the one who is wrong.A fight with spiritual means however, is the right way to do it.First of all, love truth, the rest will come to you.Peace, therealAnodyne

  20. Anonymous writes:Wow, a lot of controversy in here. It’s obvious that just talking about faith and beliefs do not really go anywhere anymore, there are just too many religions out there. But what about scientific theories that were proven hundreds (if not more) of years before the theories existed? I have a couple of questions, and would like to know what you all think of this…. 1. The earth being round. In the third century B.C. Aristotle proved this by scientific arguments and observation. However, there are records of this theory as long ago as 1000 B.C. in the scriptures of Isaiah. Isaiah 40:22 – “He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them.”As you can see, this was said long before that theory ever came into existence. 2.The Hydro-logic Water Cycle (how water cycles naturally from the sky to the earth, and back to the sky). A Roman engineer named Marcus Vitruvius conceived this theory around 30 B.C. But, again, there is written proof that this theory existed as long as 1600 B.C. in the scripture of Job. Job 36:27-28 – “β€œHe draws up the drops of water, which distill as rain to the streams; the clouds pour their moisture and abundant showers fall on mankind.” 3. Pangea. In 1912 a scientist by the name of Alfred Wegener developed the original theory of Pangea (one land mass). Though it was flawed, he was pretty much the first to come up with it. Now, while Pangea is not directly talked about in the Bible, there are a few various verses that describe “a division of land”(Genesis 10:25) and “disbursement”(Genesis 11:8). Now this could mean a couple of things, not necessarily Pangea, but in the case of argument, it states that in Genesis 1:9 that “let all the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear” If the water was in one place, why wouldn’t the ground be? As we know the Bible was around before 1912, and it hints around one land mass. 4. The theory of evolution. The theory of evolution says that over millions of years simple life forms (one celled creatures) slowly evolved into complex life forms, and that one kind of animal evolved into another kind (ape to man). Genesis chapter one states 10 times that life forms can only reproduce after their own kind (ape to ape, man to man). All the observable facts of science strongly support the Bible’s claim that it is impossible for one kind to reproduce a different kind. The truth is, there is absolutely no tangible evidence to support evolution from any area of science. But if the Bible is wrong and man actually did evolve in small graduations over a long period of time, we should find ample fossil evidence of links in intermediate stages of transition. Some of you might say we have, if you are referring to the “Piltdown Man”, here’s the deal with that. In 1912, Arthur Woodward announced to the world that he had found the missing link between ape and man. Piltdown Man, as he called it, consisted of a jaw bone and a piece of skull which he estimated to be over 500,000 years old. However, in 1953, when the new fluoride dating process was applied to the bones, scientists found out that the jaw bone was less than 50 years old, they notice that the bones and teeth had been treated with salts and filed to make them appear old and primitive. Even Charles Darwin, the main mind behind evolution, had doubts about his own theory, and I quote “Why, if species have descended from other species by fine graduation, do we not everywhere see innumerable transitional forms? Why is not all nature in confusion, instead of the species being, as we see them, well defined?” So we can question all day about things, but how can you explain these findings by science? If the most brilliant minds can’t figure it out over a span of millennia, how can we? I believe that’s where faith steps in…….

  21. I absolutely subscribe to your remarks.Only one thing:Faith is not what most people think it is.They think faith is based on guessing or hoping. As to hope, this might well be, it is a part of faithbut guessing ?Imagine you have a very good friend, your best friend actually. One day you ask him for some money because you are in an emergency situation. He tells you: “I am so sorry but I can’t help you in the moment, I don’t have any money either.”You will believe him because he is your best friend. You would never think he is lying. So, faith has to do with believing, trusting and even knowing.Remember, he is your very best friend. But also:As you pointed out in the part about Darwin, no complex life forms can evolve by themselves from nothing. The reason, however, is not that we don’t find intermediate life forms and fossils, the reason is, it is just impossible.Let me pull the old story about a clock out of my head.Nobody on earth with a clear mind would state that the complex structure of a clock or watch was build coincidently.Take it apart and throw the parts into the air…You can do that a million years incessantly, when the parts hit the ground, they will never fall in a way that they assemble the watch by chance, never.Let’s stop to play stupid children.Of course there is a godand as the Bible states very aptly and much to the point:We can see god and tell of his existance by looking at his works. One cell, one single cell of our human bodies is already so complicated and intelligently composed that..yes what ?,that we can only admire the creator and thank him for our lifes. The only question remaining is not” Is there a god ? ” but” How is god ? “And that is what we have to ask him himself.I wish peace to all, therealAnodyne

  22. Originally posted by therealanodyne:Buddhism is selfish.I don’t know how you reach such conclusion. Buddhism is very inclusive and tolerate all other religions. Buddhism believes in redemption with deeds rather than words. If one sins in his current life, he must accept and endure hardship in his next life, his current life is a consequence of his past life. Buddhism meditation is a way of self-examination, acceptance therefore finding inner peace, rather than praying for someone else to save him, desiring for power or benefit. In Buddhism one has to take responsibility of his own doing. Therefore Buddhism respect life, nature and all creatures on earth, living a very careful life. Buddhists are vegetarians, they don’t kill any animals, let alone human beings.

  23. @AprilsnowI am sorry if I offended you or Buddhism.I agree that there is many good things in Budhismand what you are saying about being vegetarian I can really relate to.Even in the Bible is written that in the beginning the fruits and herbs on the fields were meant to be the nousihment of human beings. After the so called fall of man everything changed. It is also said that in paradise lions will lie beside sheep in peace and will eat grass and herbs.Killing is not an original part of the creation, be it human beings or animals. Why I said Budhism is selfish ?It imho is selfish because in Budhism man tries to save himself, which is not possible.Just to recapitulate:Things you have done wrong cannot me remedied by doing good things from now on.What you did can only be forgiven and thus extinguished.I agree upon the fact that human beings have to act on their own responsibility, that’s the base on which they will be judged. But that doesn’t take away that committed sins cannot be extingished (with all the consequences) by just doing good. They have to be forgiven, that’s the only wayand that is the real essence of Christianity. It is absolutely logical as well.Let’s not argue about whether there is reincarnation or not, sins cannot be extinguished with good deeds, not in this life andnot in future ones.I hope I could clarify my point of view without any offenses.Peace and love, therealAnodyne

  24. Don’t worry, it’s just an exchange of ideas. I think religions should be limited for self-betterment than serving as a ruler for truth measurement, that often results in conflicts. This is the major difference between Buddhism and Abrahamic religions. I believe this is also why Buddhism doesn’t have religious wars.I think Buddhism is more about preventing men from making sins from the beginning rather than saving themselves after making sins.

  25. Originally posted by Aprilsnow:I think Buddhism is more about preventing men from making sins from the beginning rather than saving themselves after making sins. Haha, that would be really good.Jokes aside.Yes, I am very very sad about the fact that man misused and abused the idea behind Judaism, Christianity and Islam. And if we shall perceive or identify the tree by its fruits, all these so called religions don’t look well. For me the following is a fact (should be obvious to anyone):There is good and evil in our world !The evil forces fight against the good with all means. The best way to do it, is to discredit truth by putting a name on a false “religion” or mindset and then point the finger on it, stating: “See, it is wrong, they are bad.”I must admit, I don’t belong to any established religion, neither to catholicism nor any other “religion” named with a human invented name. But I believe in god and Jesus Christand I know “..many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.” Matthew 19:30, King James VersionSurely I don’t say anything against Ghandi, Martin Luther King and others. They were killed by mighty deceivers and I wouldn’t be estonished to see one or the other in paradise (if I may say so).I understand your point of view and therefore just say:Love truth and the truth will be revealed to you.(not trying to be a teacher πŸ™‚ )What bothers me about Buddhism, is the self-salvation, which in my opinion, as explained before, is not possible. Not to be misunderstood:Of course we are responsible for ourselves but to a certain extend, we are weak. Mind that we didn’t make ourselvesbut the real desire to become good, to fight all bad cupidities and desires, is essential to become saved. With Jesus Christ, I think, god told us that we can become clean and good again, with the help of his pure spirit, which actually gave us life. How could we survive and prevail without that spirit ?therealAnodyne

  26. You are claiming facts/truth. Good and evil are not born with us from the beginning, for example, the first sentence of Confucius classics is that “People are born benign.” In China, almost 500 years before Jesus was born, we had already had our philosophers such as Confucius and Laozi, and we lived our lives according to their philosophies for thousands of years. Self-salvation is much more practical than relying on imagined superpower. This is why Buddhism is more philosophical than the western religions. Buddhism advocates benevolent, tolerance, endurance, it stresses one must purify his/her own mind, seeking peace within, rather than being self-righteous, finding problems in others, Buddhism doesn’t claim to have superpower, doesn’t conquer.

  27. Anonymous writes:everyone has there own opinion this argument is useless! as i have read some people are doing and believe the right thing others are being completely and utterly stupid and im not going to say who…

  28. @AprilsnowYou seem not to have read what I wrote…”Conquer” ?Didn’t I say Originally posted by therealanodyne:The best way to do it, is to discredit truth by putting a name on a false “religion” or mindset and then point the finger on it, stating: “See, it is wrong, they are bad.”I must admit, I don’t belong to any established religion, neither to catholicism nor any other “religion” named with a human invented name. So, that obviously means that I don’t go conform with these religions. What do you mean by “superpowers” ?There is a god, if you consider that a superpower,so be it.Anyway, I wish you peace, therealAnodyne

  29. I did read what you said. While you discredit those “false religions”, I see your way of thinking has no difference from theirs. Both are self-righteous, claiming “truth”, “fact”. This is exact what causes religious wars. You don’t see Buddhism ask/require people to convert. You could interpret “superpower” as God’s power or you could also interpret it as people taking an imagined God with “truth” to empower themselves. Originally posted by therealanodyne:so be itThe same mentality as the colonialism and imperialism? don’t hit me, please, I am scared.

  30. I really don’t see, how standing behind ones convictions can cause religeous wars. Not to force other people to do or believe something is essential to be a righteous human being. If one is not allowed to say things or even claim things just because there is evil human beings who abuse ideologies to pursue their egoistic objectives, well then, who is the bad guy ?I think those who abuse and those who follow. You are not doing anything differently from me,you claim and defend your convictions. This article on the present blog did the same thing. But in my life I found one thing:The defenders of the so called democracy and the free will and spirit immediately stop to be liberal and democratic as soon as they are faced by another conviction. As long as it doesn’t bother them, they let you do and say what you want- which is easy and nothing to be proud of -but if it bothers them, e.g. s.o. claiming to know sth. about truth, telling them they are sinners and need redemption, they suddenly can’t stand a single word anymore and start tohate, torture and kill. They did that in all history of mankindand they will pay for it one day.As to your last remark,I don’t know what you mean. What is wrong with the expression “so be it” ??therealAnodyne

I don’t have the guts to stand up to my dad and tell him I’m an atheist, that I don’t believe. This is one thing my church has caused me, absolute fear of standing up for myself and my thoughts and beliefs and those of my friends (who they wouldn’t allow me to have if they knew them). The church my dad is in (clue; door knockers, no blood transfusions etc… you might get it) is so tightly packed. They shun you for having an open mind and liken gays to paedophiles. They have brains the size of atoms, have no respect for outside communities. I respect the part of people who are part of a religion simply for having the ability to have faith in something, for the right reasons and thinking it’ll help them keep good morals; although I don’t think you need a religion to have manners and respect. In fact religion can prevent that. There are more negatives that positives to religion, but I want to be the last person to say that I’m right. I’m just saying what I think. Don’t go shoving your beliefs down others throats and telling others what to believe. I’ve had enough of that to do me a lifetime. so has everyone else. religion has caused wars and disputes, both in history and now; I’m in school in the 21st century (in Northern Ireland granted) and a lot of people still have grudges against someone else because of something so stupid as religion. I’ve been forced (strong word… mainly because I can’t stand up to the whole church… people) to preach and read and study the bible. It’s metaphorical (obviously!) and certainly can contain beneficial standards… but is by no means literal, or something to teach children or rule your life by today or ever. (Urban dictionary definition is so there… haha!) How can a god exist? yeah we can’t see black holes or whatever, we know they’re there because light gets sucked in and stuff (science… lost)but god, there is no proof and to me evolution, the big bang works… Fine, have your standards/rules/small mindedness but also feel free to have some respect, ass-hole bible bashers. But no one will ever agree. So we will, as said above, have to agree to disagree! πŸ™‚
