Found something really funny when reading Urban Dictionary.
Definition for Bible:
An ancient novel full of murder, corruption, homosexuality, bestiality, incest and cruelty. It is often read to children on Sunday.http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bible
Funny, but true and therefore sad.
Actually not all religions are the same. In theory Christianity is based on the main principle of loving the others like yourself. Which is something to think about and revolutionary back at the time.During the Catholic mass you don’t hear about the Bible (meaning the story about God and the Jews) but you hear about the “gospels” that are stories about life of Jesus. The priest reads a part of the gospel and then he explains and comments on the teaching that comes from it, which at the end are all variations of the above “love the others” concept. If you change the perspective a little Christianity is not that different from Buddism, in fact if I am correct Jesus is considered a “enlightened”.
What’s SAD is that you are on your way to a very real hell! Find the real and true God who loves you despite your ignorance.
I guess we should not worry about a loving and forgiving God but about the God from the Bible because he does not forgive and when he/she/it gets mad does magic like the deluge or like sending an angel to kill all the newborns, change people in salt and so on.Personally I am not a believer so I don’t expect God to give any sign.
Obviously, you have NEVER read the Scripture or you would know better about our loving Father Who became incarnate, suffered, was crucified, died, and rose again from death so that each one of us could have life. Do you know anyone else who would do that for YOU? I presume you are not a historian either. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”. (John 3:16) Also, if you have a Bible, read the prophecy of Isaiah:53…he speaks of Yeshua (Jesus) our Messiah…
Imagine this, there isn’t any “great earthly dad” anywhere out of your imagination. Think about it.By the way, that is a completely different topic than “religions” from a sociological – antropological – historical point of view. I can study a religion (as human “invention”) without having to believe in it.
Exactly. :)You can reverse the sentence, you know. You go asking those believers who go around killing anybody who don’t believe the same as them, so they can achieve the paradise with virgins to have sex (finally) and rivers of milk and honey to eat (finally again).
And maybe you really think it makes sense…
What have you been through to feel this way???
About 3000 years of philosophy.
I’ve lived it for 27 years! I know because I know. Picture this…you have a great earthly dad and all you think of doing is being nasty to him. You reject all that he has to say and you make fun of all his principles. You mock him and never do anything he asks you to do. You choose to leave home because you’re just sick and tired of him. Have YOU moved away from HIM or has HE moved away from YOU??? What can you expect from your dad now that you have rejected him for all that he is? Think about it.
The Bible says, “the wisdom of the world is foolishness with God”.
ChocolatesNcandles, why would you condemn me to hell? Have I broken any commandments of your religion? Lets see:1. No other gods – Nope, I have been pretty much god-free all my life. Infact, no gods at all.2. Don’t use gods name in vain – Definitely not using those anymore, took me few years to get rid of all religious curse words, now I only use arses and cunts (and even those very rarely).3. Rest day – Yes, I keep plenty of those.4. Honor the parents – Yeah.5. Killing – Nope, haven’t done that.6. Adultery – I am not married.7. Stealing – Can’t say that I have.8. False witness against neighbour – Well, I had to call cops once for my neighbour, but he was trying to break inside his own apartment (and making such terrible ruckus in the middle of the night), but I think that call was the right thing to do. So, I would have to say that I haven’t breaken this commandment either.9. Lusting for neighbours wife – Eh, how about no, just thinking about those ladies makes me shiver…10. Coveting neighbours stuff – Nope, this is a pretty poor neighbourhood, so I haven’t been tempted 😛 and I am happy with my own stuff. Is it a lie that bible would contain “murder, corruption, homosexuality, bestiality, incest and cruelty” and is it not true that it’s often read to children on sundays? Am I (and the person who submitted that definition to Urban Dictionary) mistaken about it?Bible most certainly needs a parental advisory sticker on the coverhttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/33/Parental_Advisory_label.svgNo religious indoctrination or paraphernalia for people under 18, that’s what I say and think.@ LorenzoCelsiAll the religions are at least similar if not identical. They have their diffenrences and nuances, but they are pretty much the same shit in different kinds of bags.Judaism, christianity and islam all have the same roots and they all worship the same bloody god. And yet they are at each others throats, killing each others with abandon. In theory religion might be a good idea (and in theory communism works), but the truth is that religion has caused a lot of suffering in the world.
Isaiah 53 1 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken. 9 And they[a] made His grave with the wicked— But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. 11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.
Eh, a totally random passage from the bible? Cryptic text (like a Nostradamus prophecy) aNd wItH randOM worDs CapitaliZed. Pretty annoying to read.
Judges 21:25…In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
Dont by the BS of the poster here talking about hell. I was in the church for 7 years..”Methodist” Been there done that holy roller stuff…I found most Bible thumpers dont even know the Bible…esp about hell..which isnt even preached in the Old test.. Jesus made it up.Anyway these so called Christans are no different then regular ‘nonbelievers’ most are out commiting the same sins and telling others they are going to hell…Whatever..take these nutjobs with a grain of salt.
Everything is in the Bible. Love and forgivenes, revenge and hate, hope and despair. If it would be a simple text of, well, let’s say 10 pages with a easy to understand “manual” for a good life (what could be called “good”?) nobody would even know it today. There are parts in it that seem to me to testify that God has a weird sense of humour. And that idea touches me as I am myself a weird person who is laughing on his own jokes nobody else understands.
One of my relatives is a doctor – she has worked in kids’ hospital in Cancer Dept for 6 years. You can’t imagine how those miserable children suffer. Neither You haven’t seen 2 years old girl dying, nor crying group of bald children missing their homes, toys, and all those things that kids love. I hope You will not see what I have seen accidentally. Religions were in the past (and still are) the reasons of wars. Thousands of innocent people die because of religion. Pyres, terrorism – so where is God you love talking about? No matter if he is white, black, or yellow. The last matter. Gods’ clerks. I don’t know the situation in other countries, but here, in Poland, priests don’t pay taxes, they are Untouchables. Imagine! One of them has refused to baptize my daughter, because I am divorced. I made him to do it (don’t ask how), but it was my last contact with religion and with a church as an institution. Now my daughter is adult, and made her own choice about that. Please don’t tell me about God. If he really existed, He wouldn’t be so blood and gold thirsty. He wouldn’t be cruel either.
If we would have wars for religion, we would have wars for ethnic, social, political etc. reasons. Unfortunately we will ever fight. Ever. We refuse to learn.
A holy book by me:1.1 Wise people believe everything I say and write.1.2 You are a numbskull if you don’t. Refuse to open your eyes and follow my teachings and you shall stub your toes in the dark!
You are right. Religion will first kill your brain and later the rest of you.
There are also non-literal ways to interpret the Bible and some come out pretty moral/ethical. That’s where the crux is supposed to be, I think, though it sure isn’t obvious for most people when reading the Old Testament and this is probably one of the reasons why institutional religions look the way they look, or maybe they are just simply human like all the rest of us. I agree with Leevi here, there are other books more suitable for children. Not even all adults can handle Bible.
I use to pray for a lottery win…but then I discovered God doesn’t work like that, so I fixed a few Big wins for deserving people and prayed for forgiveness =o)
14 The wise man’s eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all.15 Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.16 For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.–Ecclesiastes 2:whistle:
Wise words. And the fool will go on being foolish and the wise man will go on being wise.
Just read the whole Ecclesiastes book, and it’s like reading emo poetry. According to it everything is pointless. It would be depressing if I would but any faith on bibble.@Pineas2How did you come to that? Ecclesiastes only says that same fate waits for them – death and that they will be both forgotten.http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes%202:12-16;&version=31;Reminds me of this.http://www.freethinker.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/mr-gruff-300×218.jpgThe grouchy atheist might be grouchy, but even with his religion (or perhaps thanks to it) Ecclesiastes seems to be even grouchier.
Well, I referred to my experience. That the same end waits for everyone won’t change the way they are living.
Just read the whole Ecclesiastes book, and it’s like reading emo poetry.I never heard it put that way before.
There is nothing new under the sun. The bible is besides a religious book the accumulated knowledge of generations and generations of people. You look into the life of bronze age Abraham, the believes of the prophets, the life of Moses and philosophy and poetry.
Ecclesiastes seems to be even grouchier.Grouchy? Try Jeremiah…
Haha I did discover this definition. Kinda funny but maybe you make some people annoyed. nice day
Fuck you..! :furious:
Even thought you are not catholic (me too) but we have to observe their religion. You tread on delicate ground. Hope it is only your careless thinking.
Your such an idiot not everything is explained to children. It’s full of all those things because thebible says we can’t do any ofthose things, try reading Leviticus 18 it’s for you
what!?!?!?!
Ewww, I read the Leviticus 18:23 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus%2018:23;&version=31;Leviticus 18:23 (New International Version) 23 ” ‘Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion. So, it’s only perversion if a woman does it? Sick sexist fuckers.Bibles really should have those warning stickers on them.
no idiot its saying for man and women idiot, the first part is for men and the second is for women…
Hmm, now I see what you mean GuiltyGear, those laws were given *only* to men and just two parts concerned women. Ok, that’s not sick, but it’s still sexist.Leviticus 18:23 is open to interpretations and misunderstandings. Badly written I would say, just like the entire book, confusing little piece of work.
RE: ChocolatesNcandles, why would you condemn me to hell? Have I broken any commandments of your religion? Lets see:I would to take a moment to respond to this post if you don’t mind, you ask why would you condemn me to hell. Have I broken any commandments of your religion?First I would like to clarify that the commandments are given to all of us by God they are His Laws and we are required to obey them, the only problem is that God’s Law’s are perfect and we are not. In fact the Bible says that we have all sinned and broken His commandments; let’s go through them once again;1. No other gods – Nope, I have been pretty much god-free all my life. In fact, no gods at all.You say that you have not broken this commandment, well you may claim not believe in any god at all but are you not breaking this law by placing yourself first, by denying God are you not and living your life for yourself are you not putting yourself before God thereby making yourself the god of your own life?2. Don’t use gods name in vain – Definitely not using those anymore, took me few years to get rid of all religious curse words, now I only use arses and cunts (and even those very rarely).Let’s say a person rapes a woman or may be two, then feels like he should not do that anymore, perhaps he feels guilty and decides to stop being a rapist. Let’s say a couple of years go by and the Law catches up to him and he is brought into court and is standing before the judge, the judge is about to pass sentence on him and asks him if he had anything to say before he passes sentence on him. The man answers and says yes your honor I just want to say I am sorry about what I did to those women and that I have been a good person since I raped those women. Do you think? 3. Rest day – Yes, I keep plenty of those. The Sabbath day on which God commanded us to rest and to do no work on that specific day which is the 7th day of the week? Can you honestly claim that you have always kept this commandment and not broken it even once? I mean every single one of them. Remember you only have to tell one lie to be a liar and only break one law to be a law breaker.4. Honor the parents – Yeah. You have never talked back to your parents? Never caused them trouble or been disobedient? Always been respectful? 5. Killing – Nope, haven’t done that.Have you ever hated anyone? (1Jn 3:15) Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.6. Adultery – I am not married.(Mat 5:27) “You have heard that it was said, ‘You must not commit adultery.'(Mat 5:28) But I say to you, anyone who stares at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.7. Stealing – Can’t say that I have. You have never taken anything; I mean anything at all, regardless of the value. I mean if I open your wallet and take out one dollar without asking I would still be considered a thief. If you left a pack of gum on the table and when you weren’t looking I took isn’t that stealing?8. False witness against neighbor – Well, I had to call cops once for my neighbor, but he was trying to break inside his own apartment (and making such terrible ruckus in the middle of the night), but I think that call was the right thing to do. So, I would have to say that I haven’t breaking this commandment either.Bearing false witness also means lying, have you always told the truth?9. Lusting for neighbor’s wife – Eh, how about no, just thinking about those ladies makes me shiver…Your neighbor just does not refer to those living next door to you but it also means the man’s wife who you looked at with lust as she walked down the street, even though you may not have known she was married.10. Coveting neighbors stuff – Nope, this is a pretty poor neighborhood, so I haven’t been tempted and I am happy with my own stuff.Again your neighbor does not always refer to the person next door;(Luk 10:29) But the man wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”(Luk 10:30) After careful consideration, Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when he fell into the hands of bandits. They stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.(Luk 10:31) By chance, a priest was traveling along that road. When he saw the man, he went by on the other side.(Luk 10:32) Similarly, a Levite came to that place. When he saw the man, he also went by on the other side.(Luk 10:33) But as he was traveling along, a Samaritan came across the man. When the Samaritan saw him, he was moved with compassion.(Luk 10:34) He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.(Luk 10:35) The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take good care of him. If you spend more than that, I’ll repay you when I come back.'(Luk 10:36) “Of these three men, who do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the bandits?”(Luk 10:37) He said, “The one who showed mercy to him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do what he did.”Can you honestly say you have never desired anything that someone else had or has? Please take a moment and consider what I have written, and ask yourself am I really as innocent as I think I am?
alot of ppl say theres no god but wat if there wrongwat if there is a god, wat will u tell him when u come face to face with him on that dayhow will u explain to him that you been denying ppl alwaysed asked ok if hes real then were does he come from maybe the answer is nowhere thats why hes god

I’m afraid that I can’t just accept someones word about it.Nothing is perfect, not even your 10 commandments. Different sects can’t even seem to agree on the numbers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10_commandments#Division_of_the_Exodus_20_Commandments Also, the commandments are meant only for the followers of that religion “I am the Lord *your* god”.1. I suppose you could see it like that, but I am no god, stop trying to break your own rules repentbelievebesaved. You cannot worship me.2. ..right, really harsh to compare me to a rapist. Not nice at all. Anyways, like you said according to bible you have broken this commandment too, how many have you raped?3. Rest day, 7th day of the week, is it really that important that it would absolutely have to be the 7th day? Think of the horror if people who made calendar didn’t get the weekdays right! Do not take everything so literally, it’s the thought that counts, right?4. Honoring parents doesn’t mean blind obedience. I can disagree with them about something and still respect their views.5. Haven’t killed anyone. I have hated few people, but thoughtcrimes are not punishable.6. Still not married and even if I would be, thoughtcrimes are not punishable.7. Taking that packet of gum would be stealing if you would know who left it there, if you would have no idea who left it there you could keep if you so wished (personally I would just throw it in trash) as it’s value is less than what’s said in Finnish law about lost and found items (Löytötavaralaki 3 §).Once I found someones mobile lying on the street. I could have very easily just pocketed it to myself and nobody would have know, but I called the number listed as Mom and told her that I had found the phone. Phones owner came and picked the phone later that same day and everyone was happy. If I cannot be bothered to pay for something, I don’t need it. I am not rich, but I have enough to buy the things I need.8. Few white lies never hurt much. Nobody is telling 100% truths all the time, not even me.9. Thoughtcrimes still aren’t punishable.10. Sure, I sometimes think that it would be nice to have something that others have. If I really think it would be nice to have and I would actually need, I would most likely buy it. The problem is that I am a bit of a scrooge, I sometimes think that it would be nice to have that and this, but pretty much always I end up not getting anything.Originally posted by shikimemory:alot of ppl say theres no god but wat if there wrongWhat if you worship a wrong god. True. I wish more people can see it this way.
Dude now that is a great definition for ”the book” who ever wrote it was going through a ruff patch but i think if it waz a novel it could be the best seller
Novel or not, It is a bestseller. I think the Urban Dictionary definition is funny too. Humor involves a paradigm shift. I haven’t been to the children’s cancer ward, but I’ve met people who have, known people who died from cancer, nearly died a few times myself, and am sure that billions of people have died senselessly horrible deaths regardless of whether they prayed or who they prayed to. To ask how a loving God could possibly exist in this cruelly random environment is to ignore the very basis of Judeo-Christian premise. THERE IS EVIL IN THE UNIVERSE. Our ancestors brought it in by choice. We have to live with that choice just as others have to live with our choices. In all this we believe God has a plan that surpasses our ability to comprehend in our little spot of this cosmos. And that is the beginning of our faith. But even athiests must have faith in the authority of the opinions they subscribe to. So it seems to me that anyone who claims to have been a true church going believer for years on end and turns atheist either never got the point or has truly rejected all desire for divine healing. Given the state of churches, the former is very possible, or so I hope. But I must let God be the judge. God is generally the only one who knows the true culpability in our hearts. That is why the Bible is so dark in so many places, because the prognosis is bad. It’s that evil that just keeps popping up.
hmmmm, except its not a work of fiction, and its not about laws and rules, its about love.try reading “the Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel. Or “Mere Christianity” by CS.Lewis. or read the Bible yourself, condemning it -without having read it for yourself- makes you just as ignorant as those that defend it without basis.
Bible most definitely is a work of fiction, however some parts of it might be based on real events.Lots of nasty stuff in the bible and as far as I can tell, all these statements are true: “An ancient novel full of murder, corruption, homosexuality, bestiality, incest and cruelty. It is often read to children on Sunday”.For example, murders, lots of them: beginning with Cain and ending with mass murders and genocides.Saw this few weeks ago http://my.opera.com/Christie1107/blog/show.dml/3062659 People of Ai got massacred by Israelites and Christie1107’s message about the teaching of that story isThe people of God are never in greater danger of assuming they no longer need to pray for guidance than when the Lord has just answered prayer or greatly blessed them.First they tried to kill the people of Ai without a god and got beaten back. They whine to their god and instead of condemning the massacre attempt – god tells them how to do it! (stab ’em in the back)http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Joshua%207:2-8:29;&version=31;I read the chapters and the message I got was very different from Christie’s message… As a believer what kind of teaching you find in that story Matthew?Anyways, for a love/romance book bible contains a bit too much violence for my taste.
Jesus on top of Jesus dry humpin’ Jesus. That definition is right on. If you guys like atheist music, drop by and see me. Just click my banana.
I think we should all try to worship you, Leevi.. If you didn’t exist, doing all the good work moderating the blog community, then opera would have to invent you – that’s getting close to the definition of God..=o}
The nuns at our church would love to worship Leevi, but he might have to take off his shirt and disco dance to get them fired up about it. Nuns love disco. It’s more fun than reading that nasty bible.
Whatever lights their candle.. =o>
